The Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency (BSMEPA) was established by the end of 2004 with the Ministry of Economyand Energy of Republic of Bulgaria. The Agency implements the Government's policy for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

BSMEPA delivers various services to SMEs such as Information and consulting services, Training courses for SMEs, Support for increasing the competitiveness of the companies & Services for the internationalization of SMEs.

It primarily involves in the following activities:

• Grant schemes under the Operative Programme "Development of the competitiveness of the Bulgarian economy 2007 – 2013" related to the technical development, innovation decisions, improving of the business environment for the Bulgarian companies. As an Intermediate Body according to Priority 1 and 2 of the Operational Programme BSMEPA is responsible to organization of information campaigns, collection and evaluation of the project proposals, contracting, monitoring, certification of the project expenses and requests for payments to the MA, financial reports.

• Supporting the Internationalization of the Bulgarian SMEs through services and instruments for strengthening the International positions of the SMEs - Development of bilingual National Export Internet Portal; Identification and analysis of the competitive industrial sectors and product groups; Trainings and seminars for capacity building and development of skills in foreign trade; Organization and financial support for participating in international exhibitions, fairs, B2B forums and other promotional events.

• Delivering informational services and organization of different trainings in partnership with branch associations and other NGOs.

• Working on International projects in support for SMEs.

The history of the DCCI starts with the foundation in 1856 of the Natal Chamber of Commerce which was described in the Charter which formally constituted the body as the Durban Chamber of Commerce in 1884 (Natal Law no. 31), as an "association of persons engaged in mercantile and commercial pursuits." After more than a century later, and in common with a movement that was replicated in all parts of South Africa, this body merged with the Chamber of Industry to form the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It has been a proud history of a Chamber which has consistently been among the largest chambers in the country.

Not least among its strengths is its system of Standing Committees which meet regularly to consider relevant issues within the sectors that the committees represent. Over many years, the discussions of member representatives in these committees have enabled the Chamber to make influential submissions regarding matters of current business concern and interest to local government and beyond at the provincial and national levels. Except for a period of a few years when the DCCI disaffiliated from the South African Chamber of Business (as it was then), it has always provided substantially to the mandate of the national body. In recent years, DCCI representatives have occupied deputy and vice presidential offices within the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Considering the status of the Durban Port and its importance within the Durban business community, it is not surprising that the Chamber's Durban Port Committee is one of its most successful and influential. On a regular basis this committee's meetings are attended by representatives of almost all the stakeholder organisations which constitute the port community. Another very well supported committee is that which deals with Tourism. The Chamber recognises the importance of Tourism as an industry in Durban and is intent on providing impetus and momentum in this sphere so that the city can become an even more important and popular tourism destination. There are similar sector committees which deal with issues relating to the environment, safety and justice, human resources, infrastructure, economic affairs, trade and investment and women empowerment.

With a full-time staff of over thirty dedicated people, the DCCI provides business information and support to its 2 600 member companies and represents their interests in a variety of forums. The Business Services department engages regularly with members who require information, about all aspects of business, but international trading in particular. The Chamber processes over 25,000 certificates of origin each year. In common with Chambers of Commerce throughout the world, the DCCI offers numerous networking activities which are particularly popular among people mainly within the small business. In the South African context sector, the development of small enterprises is essential in order to address the problems of unemployment. The Chamber takes this very seriously and operates a SMME Desk which manages a busy programme of training and support.

The Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), in association with the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, has set up an Intellectual Property (IP) Facilitation Centre for MSME, to guide MSMEs regarding utilization of IP tools and technologies for better management of their intellectual property related needs..

The IPFC offers its services in all IP areas i.e. Patents, Trademarks, Designs, Copyright, Geographical Indications.

IPR Division of FICCI is intensively involved in issues pertaining to protection of Intellectual Property Rights and its effective enforcement. It has taken a lead role in raising awareness on Intellectual Property at the national level; the division is also engaged in capacity building and training in industry and enforcement agencies, including the police and customs departments. In addition, the division sensitizes judiciary on the quality and speedy adjudication of Intellectual Property related matters. FICCI IPR division provides a platform for continuous interactions between industry, law firms, IP consultants, IP outsourcing firms and the patent office so as to provide an interface and enable businesses to resolve IP related issues through research, global networking & advocacy. It also facilitates the Government in policy development.

FICCI - IPR Division has recently launched an Online Certificate Course on Intellectual Property (IP) to develop awareness about IPR as well as to develop a pool of professionals in the area of IPR, whose knowledge and services will benefit the industry at large.

The Course may be pursued by the Students from Law, Science and related disciplines, Lawyers, Patent Agents, Professionals from Industry fields, such as Electrical, Computer, Chemical, Mechanical, Research and Development and other scientific domains, enforcement personnel, etc.
